The Flesh and Spirit

I was sitting at lunch with my Grandaddy when he looked at me and genuinely asked how I was doing.

I always appreciate when he specifically asks me that question for several reasons:

I know it is genuine.

I trust him.

He always provides wisdom.

He never makes me feel alone or broken.

He says he is praying for me, AND actually does it.

This led to a mutual conversation about the war between flesh (our mind) and spirit (our God given truths).

Oftentimes, the war becomes so big and the mind becomes so loud…and usually we allow the mind to win.

Yes, I said ‘We ALLOW the mind to win.’

God is in control of our life, AND we are in control of ourselves.

We have control over the thoughts and actions we feed ourselves.

Romans 8:5-6

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Are we feeding our flesh, or are we feeding the spirit?

Are we entertaining our irrational thoughts, or are we feeding the wisdom we know God provides?

Are we investing in the ways of the world, or are we investing in the way of God?

Are we truly becoming more like the flesh, or more like the spirit?

Who are you going to allow to win the battle, flesh or spirit?
