The Chase

Writer's picture: Maggie McgawMaggie Mcgaw

Often life can feel like a race.

We are constantly chasing after something, only to never find a finish line.

The things of the world we are convinced to chase never truly fulfill us.

The dictionary defines chase as, “pursue in order to catch or catch up with.’

Are you catching up with the world, or chasing after God?

The worldly desires and expectations will never end. And, plot twist, we will never meet those expectations.

Worldly. Expectations. Are. Impossible.

But…

God IS possible.

God IS reachable.

God IS fulfilling.

God IS enough.

When we chase after God, we chase a real and full life.

I spent many years chasing the world.

Success expectations.

Body expectations.

Materialistic expectations.

Education and career expectations.

Personality expectations.

This chase drained me. I was exhausted, and still I never achieved anything or reached a ‘finish line.’

It was not until I found God that I found freedom.

It was not until I found God that I experienced the beauty of life.

It was not until I found God that I found the most authentic version of me.

“The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.” Isaiah 58:11.

When we have God, we have all that we need.

When we have God, we are fulfilled.

When we have God, there’s nothing else in the world we need to chase.

What are you chasing in life?

Are these things building you up or tearing you down?

Are these things truly fulfilling?

Will these things ever deliver what they promise?
