Self Respect.

Writer's picture: Maggie McgawMaggie Mcgaw

One of the greatest pieces of advice I have been given is this:

‘Self love is not vanity or arrogance, because that is not love. Self love is having great respect for yourself…what a miracle it is to even be alive.’

Words like ‘Self Respect’ and ‘Self Acceptance’ saved my life. (part of me hates admitting that-LOL- thank you therapists for not giving up on me.)

I personally believe there is a big difference between self obsession and self acceptance.

Self acceptance allows us to speak to ourselves like speaking to someone we love.

Self acceptance allows us to take care of our bodies needs, and listening to its whispers before it screams.

Self acceptance is nurturing all that you are and all that you are feeling.

Truly…self acceptance is recognizing all the ‘hard’ you are facing and feeling about yourself/circumstances AND still choosing to take care of yourself.

If you have been criticizing yourself and it has not worked…try accepting yourself.

We can listen to others’ words, take advice from those we care about, or even seeking help professionally…AND still no one can give you -perfect- advice because they are not walking the same story as you.

Be the voice you need for yourself.
